What we’re writing
Cryptocurrencies and crime are often linked, but the reality is a bit more complex.
In reality, however, blockchain-based payments are pseudonymous, not anonymous. You can't trace them by name, but you can trace wallet addresses on public blockchains.
That's why blockchains are really good tools for investigations – and we're explaining the basics for beginners.

What we’re watching
North Korea’s Lazarus Group recently made a lot of headlines. The hackers stole around $1.5bn worth of cryptocurrency in a sophisticated attack against ByBit.
The BBC World Service explained the attack in a short video. In addition, there are many interesting takes around this incident, for example the potential implications on future crypto regulation in the United States which you can find here.

What we’re trying
Farcaster is a protocol that wants to change the social media landscape. Unlike traditional social networks, it is not controlled by a single entity or confined to centralized servers. In a nutshell, it’s Web3 social media.
Farcaster operates on blockchain infrastructure. The tech in the background helps to promote transparency, security, and decentralization. It also minimizes the risks of data breaches and censorship.
Compared to traditional social media giants, the number of users is tiny so it's more of an experiment for now. It's too early to say whether that will change in the coming months and years – but you can see for yourself.
